Education > SDBTA Monthly Meetings

Education is the foundation for the existence of the San Diego Business Travel Association.
We were founded in 1982 by a small group of travel industry leaders that wanted to
raise the knowledge and professionalism of those individuals whose careers were in
managing or selling travel related services. Each of our monthly meetings is designed to
provide current, leading edge information and knowledge sharing among our membership, or to create a comfortable social environment where networking and peer recognition can be accomplished informally.

March 19th, 2009 Lunch Meeting - La Costa Resort & Resort:

Search Sense - Optimizing a Corporate Travel Program’s Air Search & Reporting Process

Guest Speaker: Bryan Holmes with Broadcom Corporation

With the current economic climate stressing corporations, corporate travel has become a favorite target for executive management to drive cost reductions through sweeping travel policy modifications. While well intended, these changes frequently miss optimizing air travel spend as they rarely address the way corporate travel programs search airfares. Furthermore most travel programs follow processes highlighting traveler behaviors that awkwardly position the travel team against the business traveler. This may result in perception issues with the program and a feeling with management that the travel group is not driving savings for the company.

Join Bryan Holmes, Broadcom’s global travel manager as he reviews procedural shortcomings with standard search and reporting processes which oftentimes:

·         Undermine trust in the travel program
·         Miss taking advantage of the significant pricing variances seen with high cost airline tickets
·         Under report savings opportunities
·         Fail to appropriately take advantage of web fares and alternate inventory sources

Bryan will outline pragmatic steps to address these shortcomings that will immediately impact a program’s bottom line. He will take you on his personal journey addressing his management’s challenge to reconstruct Broadcom’s air program which led to his innovative approach to recreate Broadcom’s airfare search, communication, and reporting process delivering substantial savings.
Bryan’s presentation is targeted for anyone involved in influencing corporate airfare purchases to include administrative personnel frequently overseeing arranging travel to veteran global travel managers.
